Fat Utilization by Muscle

چکیده
1. The effects of cocaine and of added vitamin B1 on the glucose fermentation of Saccharomyces cerevi8iae at pH 7, previously grown in the presence and in the absence of cocaine, have been compared. There is a difference in behaviour towards added vitamin B1 between the normal yeast and the cocaine-grown yeast. 2. Cocaine in concentration sufficient to arrest growth (0005M) at pH 7 inhibits completely the carboxylase system of S. cerevi8iae. 3. The carboxylase systems of yeast grown in the presence and in the absence of cocaine are inhibited by cocaine to a similar extent. 4. No quantitative adaptation ofthe carboxylase system of S. cerevi8iae has been found as a result of growth in the presence of cocaine at pH 7.

متن کاملEffect of protein ingestion on energy expenditure and substrate utilization after exercise in middle-aged women.
Research suggests that ingesting protein after resistance exercise (RE) increases muscle protein synthesis and results in greater muscle gains. The effect on energy expenditure and substrate utilization, however, is unclear. This study evaluated the effect of RE and postexercise protein on recovery energy expenditure and substrate utilization in 17 women (age 46.5 +/- 1.2 y). A whey-protein sup...
متن کاملManipulation of dietary carbohydrate and muscle glycogen affects glucose uptake during exercise when fat oxidation is impaired by beta-adrenergic blockade.
We have recently reported that, during moderate intensity exercise, low muscle glycogen concentration and utilization caused by a high-fat diet is associated with a marked increase in fat oxidation with no effect on plasma glucose uptake (R(d) glucose). It is our hypothesis that this increase in fat oxidation compensates for low muscle glycogen, thus preventing an increase in R(d) glucose. Ther...
متن کاملRedistribution of glucose from skeletal muscle to adipose tissue during catch-up fat: a link between catch-up growth and later metabolic syndrome.
Catch-up growth, a risk factor for later obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, is characterized by hyperinsulinemia and an accelerated rate for recovering fat mass, i.e., catch-up fat. To identify potential mechanisms in the link between hyperinsulinemia and catch-up fat during catch-up growth, we studied the in vivo action of insulin on glucose utilization in skeletal muscle a...
متن کاملPrevention of obesity and insulin resistance by glucokinase expression in skeletal muscle of transgenic mice.
In type 2 diabetes, glucose phosphorylation, a regulatory step in glucose utilization by skeletal muscle, is impaired. Since glucokinase expression in skeletal muscle of transgenic mice increases glucose phosphorylation, we examined whether such mice counteract the obesity and insulin resistance induced by 12 wk of a high-fat diet. When fed this diet, control mice became obese, whereas transgen...
متن کاملReference Gene Selection in Adipose and Muscle Tissues of Fat-tailed Lori-Bakhtiari Lambs
BACKGROUND: Fat-tailed sheep breeds have a unique ability to tolerate periods of negative energy balance due to seasonal changes in feed availability. This ability is attributed to presence of fat-tail as a body energy reserve, however the exact underlying mechanisms controlling the response of adipose tissue depots to variations in energy balance in fat-tailed breeds a...
